FILE SIZE:
Files 10MB or smaller can be e-mailed or placed in the DropBox on our website. All files over 10MB must be sent via the DropBox.
FILE RESOLUTION:
The most common problem we encounter is low-resolution files that will not print properly. To the eye, files at 72 dpi are fine on a computer screen. For print, however, files should be a minimum of 240 (preferably 300) dpi TO SIZE. That is a file that you wish to print at 9" x 12" should be sized 9" x 12" and 240-300 dpi. Files with inadequate resolution will print fuzzy and with jagged edges (bitmapped).
COLOR MODE / DIGITAL PRINTING:
For digital printing, files may be in RGB color mode. CMYK is also acceptable. Black & white artwork should be provided in black & white or grayscale (photographic images).
COLOR MODE / OFFSET:
Files for offset printing must be in CMYK color mode (color), or grayscale (black & white). For 4-color processing, spot colors should be converted to CMYK. Black type should be provided in 100% black (0/0/0/100). Type that is knock-out (i.e. white on a color background) should be no smaller than 8 pts.
BLEED:
If you want your printed image to print to the edge of the paper (i.e. no white space), you must provide a bleed. In order allow room for trimming, your image must "bleed" off the edge of the paper a minimum of 1/16" on all sides where the image prints to the edge:
FONTS:
To minimize font issues, it is recommended that files be converted to high-resolution pdf, with fonts embedded. (Ideally, please supply the original file as well as a high-resolution pdf.)
PDF
Fonts should be embedded in pdf files.
lllustrator files, type should be changed to outlines, and submitted as .eps or .pdf.
Quark
Quark files should be "Collected for Output" and folder zipped or stuffed for transmission via our DropBox.
InDesign
InDesign files should be "Packaged" with fonts and links.
Publisher
Publisher files should be collected via "Pack & Go –Take to a Commercial Printing Service" to collect all files and fonts.
PROOFS:
For our original design work, or your files provided for offset printing, we will provide pdf proofs for approval prior to printing. Digital proofs can also be provided at additional cost; however, color match may not be precise to offset, especially if Pantone colors are specified.
TRANSMITTING FILES VIA THE DROPBOX:
Only one file at a time may be submitted. Single files should have an identifying suffix (i.e., ".doc" for Word files, ".pdf" ".tif" etc.)
Multiple files can be placed in a folder and "zipped" or "stuffed" prior to sending. Zipped or stuffed files should also have an identifying suffix (i.e. ".zip" or ".sit").
Use a simple, short file name — no spaces, dashes or strange characters!
